At 06:15 this morning I was violently woken up by a janking doorbell, operated by a night delivery man, coming in from the snowfall and holding a box containing 6 wild fish I've been waiting for for 5 years. They're in the tank now for about 45mins and starting to colour up. They originated from Kamphol (but I got them from Tropicwater) and are from the same batch he gave some of for me to the UK, that didn't make it. When I can and when it's safe I'll make some pics, and hopefully get my FTP back up so I can post them. They're certainly Badis pyema, and by the looks of it 3 pairs. They're still small (20-30 mm TL).
Congratulations, Stefan!

Thank you! Won't you get some too Charly? If you don't have space or anything we can always arrange something later if you'd like?
Sorry, Stefan!
No space.
But...maybe...after spring meeting...?

First I must be able to breed them But sure; no hurries
So here they are, far from being coloured up but it is as it is for now. When I have photos of them fully coloured up I will post those as well.
You might think how boring that the male's fins are folded to its body but it's a usual 'stance' for Badis pyema; as mentioned earlier their dorsal and anal fin lappets are thickened and so are the first spines of the pelvic fins, and by folding the anterior of the dorsal and anal fin it becomes more streamlined and use the strong fin parts to cope with the current; quite brilliant! the photo of the male also shows clearly how slender a species they are, especially in the males. Females, as you can see, have a bit more body depth, a rounder abdomen in ventral and lateral aspect, depending on the maturity of the overies.
Hi, Stefan!
Looks like you've got both sexes. And they seem to be in good shape.
Good luck!

Thank you Charly! Yes both sexes are there. I hope they grow quickly so they'll colour up more. I see that already now and then but never when I have the camera in my hand ha ha! They are doing very well only getting to eat anything other than live glassworms is tricky and takes some time.
We've fast-forwarded a few months and today...today...I found eggs, finally!
GREAT!

Well it was about time If you want, Charly (and others!), a friend of mine from England has plenty F1 to share right now; I can hook you up if you'd like?
Hi, Stefan!
You don't have some empty aquaria for me, do you?
And what's more, I got some Badis from Cootch Behar in northern Bengal.
That's the fish with the very prominent dorsal spot and the reddish ground coloration.
Send you pictures as soon as they are fully coloured.

I wish I had empty aquaria To keep some pyema for you until you can house them, you mean? If you can't now, you can always wait for me to raise some.
Oh nice! Where did you get those from? I'm looking forward to the photos.
New nest; rearing tank set up, Artemia eggs bubbling, more than ready to transfer the fry this week.
