Hi, Stefan!
I don't know whether the Chao-Phraya is a natural barrier or not, but the Khwae Noi is a tributuary to the Chao Phraya. So it is possible to find Badis khwae and related forms in this river system, at least in the west.
All the Badis ruber in the Mekong system are found on the western side, maybe such a big river is a distribution barrier.
The Chao Phraya is much smaller and has its tributuaries in Thailand south of the northern montains, that form a watershed to the Mekong and so it is possible, that there are Badis all around the Chao Phraya system.
Not very likely, but possible, and, like khwae, they should be river forms.

Yep, as far as i know.
I can imagine, that there are some unknown Badis in the hill streams in the Chang Mai region in Northern Thailand.

I'm not so sure about more new badids occurring there; Thailand is a well-fished country. But who knows. You have plans to go to Thailand then? I'm not I'm afraid; Thailand is not interesting to me fish-wise, for the aforementioned reason. Myanmar and India are, however.

No, I'm not going to travel to Thailand.
Not interesting enough, fishwise. You are right with that.
I'd like to go to a place called Namdapha in the easternmost parts of India, in Arunachal Pradesh, as far as I know.
It's a place with rain forest in the valleys and snow leopards on the mountains.
But westerners aren't allowed to get there. You need to have a government permit, and they don't give it.
And with the Thai Rivers: Mekong and Chao Phraya are well separated, but Khwae Noi is a tributuary to Chao Phraya. So there could be Badis in other tributuaries too.
As you say, not very probable, but possible.

Here kyar is placed in the corycaeus group? It's not a member of that group at all.

Also, in the B. badis group 3 species are called 'ghosts', tuivaiei is missing and jsi is placed in that group.

Shouldn't such an official homepage reflect the current scientific status and positions (placements) of taxa and not the view of a single person? Because then it looks as if it's the IGL's opinion which it probably is not.

I'd like to suggest to follow CAS for validity and the original (re-)descriptions for positions and placements, and also validity (CAS is just an easy reference for the latter).

Just my 2 cents. What does everyone else think?
