Hallo Leute,
Mfg Chris

It's a pugnax type from Sumatra, that used to be known as as sp. Sumatra Blue. They grow large and are rare. Decribed by Tan & Ng, 2005. You can read more about them in my summary of all the new species (coming out soon I think). Do you have photos of them? Then we can see it it's truly cracens.... The photos below are real cracens....

Hi Stefan,
seems to be a nice dude. What is the maximum size of this betta?
What should be the minimum tank for it and which waterparameters are the right ones.
I don't have any pics, because i don't have those fishes.
Thanks for your comment.

hi stefan
![]()
what a nice fish! I am impressed!
Yeah very nice fish indeed! Max size about 120-140 mm TL I guess. I'd use an 80 cm tank for 2 pairs, but larger is always better of course. Water: no idea I'm afraid. I think slightly acidic - pH 6.0-6.5 - and dGH 3.0-4.0. Ideal temp should be something like 22-25 C. But again, I'm not entirely sure! There's little known about the new fish. Do you have the possibility to photograph them at the store? Are you going to buy some?
Hey stefan,
this fish seems to be very interessting, but is actualy to big for me, because i don't have 80 cm tanks.
The store is in another part of germany and so i can't take a picture of it.
So i just can tell you, that there is the possibility to get them. But i didn't saw a picture of them, therefore i don't know if it is the real one.

If you could make some photos that'd be great! I'm pushing for those because some stores on purpose stick a wrong label to them to sell more fish.... But I have heard they're already in the trade, though scarcely.... Surferbabe, if they are cracens, will you get some? You'll have a rare fish on your hands then and it will be nice to see them in good hobbyists hands to establish a good population.
Huhu,
i can't make any pics, cause my cam is broken.
But I'll have a precise view on that fishes.
@Stephan: should i buy some for u ?

Ah that's too bad! That's a very kind offer of you and it itches to say yes, but I wouldn't have an available tank for them
Got two empty ones but a friend is catching some wild badids for me in India so they're meant for those. But again, thanks for the offer. Perhaps you or someone else will buy some and establish a good population, then I can always buy some later. Let us know how it was at the store!
Hi all,
i was at the store today and brought 2 pairs.
They had not that color at the store... but i think, that they are B. cracens.
You should see the blinking line on the dorsal fin. This small lightning orange.
So we'll see....
I'll try to make some pics !!

Anja

Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing the photos. How large are they now? Time will make them colour up. either way; cracens is pretty slender with the build of a uni type.
Huhu,
they have a size of 7 cm at the moment.
Today i gave them some white mosquito larvae and they ate much.
The females have a big belly.

Anja

Hallo,
habe jetzt die von Tropic Aquaristik als Betta cracens angebotenenen Fische fotografiert.
Sieht aus wie Betta raja oder eine pugnax-Variante.
Hier die Fotos:

I'd say raja yes - definitely no cracens!!
